Project Cars Wii U Delay? Dev Interview Explains The Title Needs More Time To Perfect The Game On The System

Project CARS Wii U Delay Explained, Needs Time To Perfect

The crowd-funded racing sim Project CARS is being hailed as the next big thing in racing. It looks absolutely fantastic and will surely push the Xbox One and PS4 to its absolute limits in terms of graphics processing. But what of that other next-gen console, the Wii U?

Project CARS Release Date Moved And Preorder Bonuses

In an interview with Eurogamer, Slightly Mad Studios lead creative designer Andy Tudor addressed concerns from the Wii U fans about why the game has been delayed until November 2015. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will hit shelves on November 18 this year.

"We obviously delayed until 2015, and there were some passionate people who got in touch with us about that," says Tudor. "There's no conspiracy here - we announced the Wii U very early on in our development cycle, and some people think because we've been working on it a lot longer so it should be out now."

Hyrule Warriors Was Going To Be More Zelda, Less Dynasty Warriors

He followed up, "The Xbox One version looks wicked, the PC version looks awesome, so does the PS4 version. It's not our goal to rush the Wii U version and have it not look as good as the other ones." Which is, of course, a difficult thing to accomplish on the Wii U. As innovative as the system might be, it still lacks the chutzpah of its bigger cousins. There is no way a game as slick and as polished as Project CARS will ever look the same on the Wii U.

But damn if Slightly Mad isn't at least trying.

Tudors says, "The Nintendo fans we've got are crying out for a game like this. They don't really have that experience currently, and there hasn't really been anything like it on Wii previously. It's not our job to disappoint those guys. So when we say the Wii U version is delayed in 2015 because we need a little more time, that's all it is."

Now, Mario Kart 8 is a "racing" game, I suppose (and one of the most fun multiplayer experiences you can find on any system) but the man has a point: there are few hardware-pushing games out for Nintendo's console. Let's hope Project CARS can change that.
