Super Smash Bros 3DS Demo Launches In Japan, Version For Other Regions On The Way

The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS details keep coming from Nintendo ahead of the staggered release of both versions, with the 3DS title set to hit on October 3. The Wii U version does not yet have a set release date, but is due out some time this holiday season.

Meta Knight Unveiled As Playable Character In Upcoming Super Smash Bros

Several new characters and other details were revealed at E3 as expected, and we got to see the game in action in a live tournament. Even after these major announcements, though, series director Masahiro Sakurai continues to give us comparatively smaller details through the official site in the form of a daily picture update.

With the 3DS version's release date finally less than a month away, the updates have been increasingly related to the handheld edition of the game.

The post today continues that trend: Sakurai has announced a demo for the 3DS version is now available, but only in Japan. While it's disappointing for fans in other regions, hopefully good news is on the way. Here's what he had to say about the demo:

"Users in Japan, you can now download the demo for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS! You can pick among 5 fighters with which to play. The stage is Battlefield, and the rules are fixed. There will be a few items and assist trophies available too. You can battle via local wireless, so have fun battling with your friends. For users outside of Japan, stay tuned for more news about the demo for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. Screen shot is from Japanese version."

Sakurai also included another image in the post, showing off a small extra that's included in the demo.

"The only mode available on the demo version is Smash, but I also left open a feature called Tips," he wrote. "Just remember to tap that button. You'll figure the rest out once you do."

Keep checking back for more Super Smash Bros. news each day, where we'll hopefully see new character reveals or a Wii U release date.
