American Gods TV Show Casting News: Shadow Will Not Be White

Like Supernatural, Wish It Was More Hardcore? Check Out The Upcoming American Gods!

Starz, the network responsible for giving us the epic Spartacus: Blood & Sand and its sequel/prequel shows, has teamed up with Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller to bring audiences an adaptation of Neil Gaiman modern fantasy novel American Gods.

Captain America 3 Plot Rumors: Will Civil War Come To The Screen?

What is American Gods about for those who haven't read the book? Imagine if all gods ever were real, and feed on people's belief in them. America, melting pot of diversity that it is, accepting tired and huddled masses from all over, must then logically be a real smorgasbord for gods from all cultures. Against this backdrop, the mysterious ex-con Shadow is hired to be Mr. Wednesday's bodyguard as they go on a quest around the whole of these United States, meeting various figures of mythology old and new along the way.

Bryan Fuller talked to Den Of Geek about Hannibal season 3, but they got some super sweet updates on the American Gods project and how it's coming along already. One juicy tidbit is that they for certain will not be casting a white guy as Shadow, as his ethnicity is (purposely) left a bit vague in the book. Fuller also means to expand the roles of the book's female characters, even going so far as to say a one-chapter character will be of greatly increased importance.

Final Katniss the Mockingjay Poster Revealed!

A famous scene from the book featuring a sex worker visit gone wrong (or right, considering the mythological identity of one party) Fuller says will be included "as written", which coupled with Starz being the Spartacus network will surely push TV boundaries.

Hey, do you guys have any fancasting in your head? We'd love to hear them in the comments!
