New Ace Attorney Game Details: Phoenix Wright's Ancestor Will Meet Sherlock Holmes And Watson In Upcoming 3DS Title

Phoenix Wright Might Not Be In The Next Ace Attorney, But Sherlock Holmes Will

New pictures in the Japanese magazine Famitsu have revealed that Sherlock Holmes, the world's greatest detective (sorry, Batman), will be making an appearance in the newest entry in the Ace Attorney series, Kotaku reported.

Phoenix Wright Teams Up With Professor Layton In New 3DS Game

In the upcoming 3DS title, Holmes will be joined by his ever-present partner Dr. Watson. The difference is that this Watson is an 8-year-old girl. She still, however, somehow holds a medical degree. Even in this series reboot, it seems that Ace Attorney protagonist male leads are required to have weird relationships with girls a fraction of their age.

Holmes' get-up in the game has a distinctive steampunk influence, particularly in his goggles. Whether this reflects the design of the game as a whole, however, remains to be seen. Sherlock's role in the game is still unspecified, but according to Kotaku's translation of the Famitsu text, Holmes is said to be able to become a "rampage of logic." This could mean that Sherlock will be able to solve problems using a variation of the logic system found in Ace Investigators if, in fact, he plays a role in the gameplay as opposed to just making cameo appearances.

Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies Comes To iOS

In the upcoming Ace Attorney game, players will step into the shoes of Phoenix Wright's ancestor during Japan's Meiji period, the time where Japanese society moved from the feudal shogunate system into a more modern state. It's neat that this significant period in Japanese history lines up on the historical timeline with Victorian England, allowing Phoenix's ancestor to meet up with the literary hero. Given Phoenix's recent adventures in London with Professor Layton, though, it seems like a good fit. The Wright family seems to have a knack for meeting prolific English logicians with good taste in hats.

The new installment of the Ace Attorney franchise is set for a 2015 release in Japan, though there's no word on whether it will be coming West yet.
