Agent Carter Casting: 'True Detective' Star To Play Titular Character's Boss In 'Captain America' Spin-Off

Agent Carter Gets A Boss

Shea Whigham, whom you may remember as the sleazy tent preacher in True Detective or as Steve Buscemi's character's brother in Boardwalk Empire, has joined ABC's Agent Carter as the titular character's boss at SSR.

The Overextended The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug Gets An Extended Edition Trailer

After World War II and the loss of her great love Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) UK-born Peggy (Hayley Atwell) Carter moves to the States and finds employment at the Strategic and Scientic Reserve (SSR), the precursor to SHIELD (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division). Yes, I deliberately tried to get as many parentheses in there as possible (did it work?).

Shea Whigham will be playing Roger Dooley, the supervisor who sends Carter out into the field as she navigates the woman-unfriendly office work world of 1946 by day and the no doubt far more gender-equal Hydra-infested shadow world by night.

Why PG-13 Doesn't Matter For Deadpool

Whigham joins Chad Michael Murray of One Tree Hill fame and Whedon Dollhouse alum Enver Gjokaj in the SSR fold. Returning from the movies is Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, with newly cast James D'Arcy as faithful butler Jarvis who will one day be the inspiration to Iron Man's OS. The first episode will be directed by Louis d'Esposito, who did the original Marvel One-Shot Agent Carter from the Iron Man 3 DVD. The actual directors of Captain America 1 and 2 will be directing episodes, with the whole series scripted by the writing duo behind the two movies as well. No knock-off talents for this one!

Agent Carter will premiere on ABC this January to coincide with Agents Of SHIELD's mid-season hiatus.
