New Star Wars Arcade Game From Bandai Namco Will Debut At NYCC On October 8: Get Your Quarters Ready
Bandai Namco is going to unveil a new Star Wars arcade cabinet next week at the New York Comic Con. Let me repeat this so I am not misunderstood: Bandai Namco is going to unveil a new Star Wars arcade cabinet next week at the New York Comic Con.
Polygon reported the story. Some of you might not remember the glory days of the arcades. Back then, kids were armed with a roll of quarters and the express order to 'get out of the house until dinner'. Malls? Malls were for wimps. The arcade, with its gleaming, overworked machines just begging to eat all of our lawnmowing money, that was where the true wonder of the world was. Friendships were tested, rivalries were forged, and we all knew our place in line for the Street Fighter machine (put the quarters on the screen to call your spot!)
Then the days were over. Console graphics improved; arcade games started to cost more and, of course, girls didn't want to go to the arcade on a Friday night because they didn't care that you could complete all of Area 51 on 2 credits (which I could).
So for Bandai Namco to be releasing a new arcade cabinet, let alone a new Star Wars arcade cabinet is wild, crazy and very, very exciting. The company will be unveiling the machine to press only on October 8, but you better believe we'll be there. I simply hope that it is some sort of pilot simulator like the one in The Last Starfighter.
Truth is, it could be anything. It could be a four player Turtles-esque brawler (how awesome would that be?) or a very fancy X-Wing game, or perhaps utilize some motion controlled goodness to create a Lightsaber battle title. Like Schroedinger's cat, this game is both everything we want it to be and nothing we want it to be.
Gentlemen, start fishing for change in your couch. What do you think this new cabinet will be?
