Evolve News: Musician Lustmord Talks Game Music, Goliath Statue Includes Glowing Eyes And Is Available At NYCC 2014

Evolve's Composer Hits The Nail On The Head About Video Game Music, Special Goliath Monster Statue Available At NYCC 2014

Last week, we learned that the music for Turtle Rock Studios' next-gen asymmetrical multiplayer game Evolve will be composed by Dead Space composer Jason Graves and industrial musician Lustmord. Today, the Evolve blog posted an interview snippet of Lustmord talking about how he approaches music in games.

Jason Graves Talks About Music In Evolve, How It Sets The Mood And Changes For Different Players

In short, he says that video game music has started to fall down the same hole that most Hollywood music sticks to: big, ostentatious sounds mostly there for the sake of being loud and present.

"What's important here is that people don't buy games – or go watch movies – for the music playing in the background most of the time," Lustmord said in the interview. "The music is there to do a job: to enhance or focus on some intrinsic part of the game. Action, empathy, pathos – or in the case of Evolve, atmosphere of the planet. You shouldn't really be drawing attention to the audio. If you're noticing the music, it's not doing its job properly, really."

Also announced on the Evolve blog was the new Goliath statue, a scale reproduction of Evolve's cover monster. Standing at almost two and a half feet high, the statue comes with LEDs in its eyes, giving it a healthy death glare once the lights are out in your house. The reproduction is pricey, setting gamers back $750. If that's just not pricey enough for you and you happen to be in New York next weekend, an even more limited edition featuring the monster's Savage skin, will be on sale for $800. Only 650 total statues – 500 standard models and 150 of the Savage variety – will be produced, so fans who just have to have this beast on their shelves need to act fast.

Evolve will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on February 10.
