The Xbox One has officially been on the market in China for a full week, and in that time they've sold more than 100,000 consoles, according to a report over on Kotaku.

The Xbox One's Chinese debut breaks a 14-year ban that the Chinese government had imposed on foreign-made video game consoles since 2000. According to Forbes, the Xbox One is now selling in 37 Chinese cities for just less than $700 with the Kinect and $599 for the base model. It's quite a leap up from the American prices, but the cost of imports can sometimes be steep. Given the fact that they haven't had access to a foreign-made console in 14 years, Chinese video game players will likely pay the premium either way.
It will be interesting to see if gaining a stronger foothold in Asian markets can help the Xbox One catch up to the impressive sales numbers that the PlayStation 4 put up in its first year. Securing the spot as the first foreign-made console to hit Chinese shores in 14 years certainly helped bolster Microsoft's sales in Asia with 100,000 units in just a week. In comparison, the Xbox One Japanese release week netted Microsoft an underwhelming 23,000 sales.

The Xbox One still has some ground to make up in terms of sales compared to the PS4. PS4 sales in Asian markets, though they haven't been considered stellar, have certainly been adequate. The PS4 sold hundreds of thousands of units in its opening week in Japan, and the system has since become Sony's best-selling console in the region.
