Apple Confirms October 16 Event, Announcements For New Macs, iPads And OS X Yosemite Likely

Already Tired Of Your New iPhone? Apple's Got A Whole New Set Of Products To Reveal

Apparently the iPhone 6 has spent enough time in the spotlight. Apple's already moving on to bigger and better things with a new press event announced for October 16.

Here's What Should Be Coming In The Imminent iOS 8.1 Update

Whispers of this event have been circulating for a little while now, but with an official confirmation, we can finally start counting down to some new releases. Apple's confirmation came in the form of an invitation sent out to media outlets with just the phrase, "It's been way too long." The event is set for 1 p.m. Eastern (10 a.m. Pacific) next Thursday. You can see the invitation and all of its vague teasing over at 9to5Mac.

The Apple rumor mill has been buzzing with leaks about a new line of iPads and a new line of Apple computers, so we'll likely see one or both of these announcements on Thursday. The new iPads are said to be getting Touch ID support for the first time – allowing them to utilize Apple Pay for online purchases – and will come in the three iPhone colors: silver, space gray and gold.

Apple Is Starting To Shift Production Toward Making More iPhone 6 Pluses

Apple might also be getting ready to reveal a new line of MacBooks and iMacs with rumored Retina display and up to 5K resolution. This event would also be the logical time for Apple to announce a release date for OS X Yosemite, the desktop operating system that allows Mac computers to better sync with iOS 8 devices. This increased connectivity is said to allow Apple users to answer calls and messages right on their computer without pulling out their iPhone.

Another announcement that Apple might make is the release of the first major update to iOS 8. Though it wouldn't be huge news, iOS 8.1 is said to be the update that finally launches Apple Pay.

More announcements are sure to come out of the woodwork between now and then. It's safe to assume, though, that come next Thursday, Apple will have quite the product lineup for the holiday season.
