Shadow Warrior 2013 Remake Comes To PS4, Xbox One Tomorrow; Old FPS Classic Hits Next-Gen Consoles With Bloody Katana Gameplay

Add Some Slice And Dice Action To Your FPS Lineup With Shadow Warrior, Coming To Next-Gen Consoles Tomorrow

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you took Duke Nukem, made his dialogue a little more overtly crude and added just a splash of racism? You get the original Lo Wang, star of the 1997 FPS Shadow Warrior. When the game was rebooted for the PC in 2013, Lo Wang wisely lost the casual racism but kept the classic FPS charm, charm that he's bringing to next-gen consoles tomorrow.

In Shadow Warrior, you play as the subtly named Lo Wang, a katana-wielding mercenary with a penchant for slicing through demons. Though the game is rightly classified as a first-person shooter, much of the gameplay is focused on Lo Wang's katana. With single swipes of his blade, Lo Wang is able to hack off the limbs of his enemies without breaking a sweat, though he also carries a veritable arsenal of over-the-top guns to keep things interesting.

The original Shadow Warrior was made in the same distinctive Build engine that powers Duke Nukem 3D, and both games were made by the same developer, 3D Realms. The similarities between the two games are fairly apparent, with both protagonists quick to spout off some sexual one-liners in the middle of disemboweling vaguely humanoid monsters. Unlike Duke Nukem, however, Lo Wang's comeback game was fairly well received, especially compared to the panning Duken Nukem Forever received.

The Shadow Warrior remake is a loving tribute to the Doom generation of bloody, run-and-gun first-person shooters. Starting tomorrow, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners can feel the love as well.
