The Evil Within Steam Patch Notes: PC Version Gets 60fps Toggle, 'Black Bar' Fix

Evil Within PC Players Get More Frame Rate Options With New Patch

PC players who load up The Evil Within on Steam will now find that they have a new update waiting for them, an update that adds more options for players to customize their frame rate and how they want the game to be displayed on their screen.

Five Best Horror Games For iOS

With the patch, PC players of the recently released survival horror title can find a new toggle in the settings menu that can let them switch between 30fps and 60fps. Now, players who have confidence in the power of their rig can crank the game up to full graphical capacity, and those with an older machine can stay down in a safer frame rate. The game has also been optimized to run better when it's at 60fps, clearing up previous gameplay issues.

The update has also included the option to turn off the "black bars" of the game's letterbox layout. Though the letterbox format was no doubt included in the initial release to give the game a more cinematic, widescreen aesthetic, players were frustrated that it made inefficient use of their screen space. Tango Gameworks has responded in kind, and the letterbox format is now optional.

Other than some tiny, miscellaneous fixes, the one other improvement that comes with the patch is that players can now earn those precious Steam achievements even with the game's console enabled.

The Evil Within is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
