Jem and the Holograms Comic: IDW Publishing Releasing Ongoing Comic Book Version of Famous 80s Cartoon Band

Jem is Back and Just as Outrageous as Ever

It's totally officially outrageous! Jem and the Holograms are making their way to the printed page in the form of an ongoing comic book. The ultra-80s girl powered cartoon staring Jem and her all girl band The Holograms as they faced their musical rivals The Misfits (their songs are better) are moving from the small screen to comics with an updated look and attitude.

Sandman Script Approved, Movie Moving Forward

The original much-loved cartoon premiered in 1985 along with a successful line of toys.

Jem and the Holograms was marketed for girls but was like no girl cartoon had ever been before. The rocking set of girls are led by Jem (who is really the shy Jerrica) and helped to stardom by Synergy, the hologram magic machine. Honestly, it somehow beamed holograms into China at one point. I don't even know how that was possible. The show featured a combination of music, romance, and a heaping dose of science fiction as the girls went against twisted record producers and rival bands to make their way to the top.

Howard the Duck Makes A Return To The Printed Page

The new version of Jem is keeping a lot of their original feel but with a completely updated look to capture the modern landscape. IDW Publishing will be releasing the book with art by Ross Campbell, while Kelly Thompson will be writing the series.

"As a kid I was a huge fan of the original 80's JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS cartoon and so the chance to breathe new life into it for a savvy modern audience, not to mention to work with Ross, an artist practically destined to draw this book, is really a dream come true," said series writer, Kelly Thompson.

In honor of the release, there will be five special rainbow foil covers released for each member of The Holograms (get it?). The series will debut in March 2015 ahead of the live action movie of the same name in October 2015.
