Evolve Announces New Details Of 'Evacuation' Gameplay Mode That Contains Four Unique Match Types

Evolve's 'Evacuation' Gameplay Mode Is A Battle For Domination Over Five Rounds

Most of the Evolve gameplay that we've seen so far has been limited to one kind of game mode, the four-on-one asymmetrical battle between an increasingly dangerous Monster and a team of Hunters. Now, though, the developers at Turtle Rock Studios have announced that that game mode is only one piece of a bigger puzzle: the five-round Evacuation campaign.

Evacuation is a game mode in Evolve that will pit Hunters against Monsters over five maps, utilizing a collection of different match types. The first round of an Evacuation game will always be Hunt, the game mode that the developers have been showing off. In Hunt, the Hunters try to take down the Monster as the Monster attempts to level up and destroy the map's power relay. After that round, though, players will get to vote on which map they will play on next and can choose to either play another round of Hunt or one of two other game modes.

In the Nest game mode, the Monster is tasked with defending a clutch of its own eggs. If the Monster can reach one of its eggs before the Hunters do, it can hatch the egg into a Level 1 Goliath, which will then serve as battle support for the Monster. Hunters can win a round of Nest by either taking down the Monster or destroying all eggs and any AI Goliath that was hatched.

The Rescue game mode can be considered the reverse of Nest. Fallen humans are scattered throughout the map, and Hunters are tasked with reviving them and defending them as they make their way back to an escape ship. If the Hunters can save a majority of these survivors, then they win. If the Monster can kill a majority of them first, then it comes away with the victory.

After four round of this, players will meet in a final showdown in the Defend game mode. In this mode, Hunters need to defend a transport ship that's fueling up so it can get its passengers off this Monster-infested planet. The Monster then leads a battalion of Level 1 AI minions that spawn in waves in an attempt to bypass the ship's defenses and destroy it before it has a chance to take off.

Winning a match in Evacuation mode will always grant you a helpful bonus in the next map. For example, if a Monster wins Round 1, then the next level might contain toxic gas pockets that restrict the movement of Hunters. If the Hunters then go on to win Round 2, though, then they'll have some automatic turrets set up to help them out in Round 3.

Evolve will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on February 10.
