The Walking Dead spinoff, currently known as working title Cobalt, may have a filming location. All we know for sure is that it will be somewhere other than Atlanta and its surrounding areas, but new information is helping narrow down other potential locations.

Comicbook reports that the show will be filming in California, possibly in addition to Pennsylvania as previously rumored.
Pennsylvania came into the discussion due to a casting call for extras there. As for California, a Redditor reported that his Cali neighborhood received notice it was being scouted for filming.

The inclusion of California as a filiming location doesn't automatically exclude Pennsylvania, but could instead be a cheaper alternative for the future. Since so little is known about Cobalt, it's also possible that the show is set in both locations--there may be flashbacks, or even two sets of survivors. All we know for certain right now is that a handful of actors have been cast for major roles, and these two regions seem to be part of the picture.
Either of these possible locations would add a new spin to the show, namely in terms of the weather. If it gets cold enough, do zombies freeze? New areas would also feature new zombie populations, different physical challenges to overcome, and whatever else the showrunners can cook up to differentiate the spinoff from the original.
