Left 4 Dead set to infect Payday: The Heist

Zombies have a funny way of getting under folks' skin--namely through the ripping and tearing. But now they're possibly working on a new life of crime since a collaboration between Valve and Overkill Software was announced today.

Coming from a statement posted on their blog, Game Director Ulf Andersson announced the partnership:

As perceptive gamers will have noticed, several hints have recently been dropped into PAYDAY The Heist, which has led to various rumors. We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between OVERKILL and Valve is currently in production. We are working on a very cool blend of PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done.

While Left 4 Dead is a cooperative four player shooter, Payday is the same--but with banks, as this IGN 2011 E3 playthrough can attest. Clearly the resulting game will be based around a First Person Shooter format, but the actual content is a wonderful mystery. Could it be zombie bank heists? Robbing secret government facilities that have zombies? The speculation can be as wild and out there as it need be, since zombies are essentially in every game released now.

There doesn't seem to be any announcement coming from Valve, aside from community updates around Left 4 Dead 2 mutations, but who knows what will come up next? No word on any consoles or even type of release, so it may be a long time before we hear any updates. But when we do, It'll probably involve a zombie.
