Temple Run VR: Endless Runner Gets Oculus Driven Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition For First Person Virtual Reality Immersion
There are two kinds of people in this world: those who have pretended to be Indiana Jones at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and those who are lying. If anything is coming up from behind you, suddenly you're being pursued by a giant boulder.
Today, we are one step closer to being able to experience that boulder-dashing thrill for ourselves - without any fear of injury. Temple Run, the endless runner that still gets a lot of play on mobile devices is getting a new reality. A virtual reality, that is.
Imangi announced that the latest version of their hit game is now available as part of the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition, one of the many virtual reality rigs that will soon be competing for your dollars.
As in the original Temple Run game, players steal a forbidden idol and must run as far and as fast as they can, lest some gruesome beastie overtake them. Now, you become the chased in an all new, first person adventure, pursued by a terrifying monster through a cold and icy mountain ruin.
“We’re thrilled to see this new virtual reality technology in the hands of consumers, and are inspired by the potential for new game experiences,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios. “It’s been a pleasure working with Samsung and Oculus to bring Temple Run VR to life, and we can’t wait to see what players think of the chase.”
The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition is powered by the Oculus Rift and lets game designers and enthusiasts use their Samsung Galaxy S4 to create and experience their own reality. It is the “first low persistence virtual reality experience powered by a smartphone.” You can read more about the headset here.
Now, throw me the idol and I throw you the whip. I promise.
