Uber Shut Down In NYC: Company Comes Under Fire From Taxi And Limousine Commission

Uber In The Crosshairs Of The NYC Taxi And Limousine Commission

Uber is in hot water. Again. The company can't seem to catch a break as the Taxi and Limousine Commission have the company under scrutiny and have shut down some of their bases in the city.

Uber And Nevada Break Up For Good

Five out of six of the companies' bases in the city have been shut down leaving Uber with only one functional base of operations. Uber has been told to provide the Commission with records indicating, "the date of trip, time of the trip, pick up location, and license numbers" over a certain period of time.

This decision came out on Tuesday, reported Business Insider.

Uber Raises Its Rates, Adds 2 Dollar Surcharge

The company tried to argue that they shouldn't have to comply, because of course they did. Their argument was that the request violated the Fourth Amendment which protects people from unreasonable search and seizure.

They did not win.

Until the TLC's investigation is over, they'll only be operating from one base which the company claims will not hinder operations.

They went from six bases to one, and there seems to be no way that operations won't be hindered. The company released a statement that stated, "Uber continues to operate legally in New York City, with tens of thousands of partner drivers and hundreds of thousands of riders relying on the Uber platform for economic opportunity and safe, reliable rides. We are continuing a dialogue with the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission on these issues."

This comes on the tails of being put out of Nevada as well as trouble for the company in India.
