House of Cards Season 3 Spoilers: Russian Threat May Play A Huge Role In The Downfall Of Frank Underwood

Will Russia Succeed Where America Failed In New Season Of House Of Cards

One of the plot questions for the upcoming season of House of Cards is who will Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) be facing off against? He's managed to crush all contenders but this season could see him playing for higher stakes. The recent trailer provided us with a small clue.

House Of Cards Releases New Trailers, It's Not A Happy Time For Frank

We've theorized before that he'll see some friction from the Russians, namely with a new character, Anton Ivonovich who would be part of Frank's downfall. The trailer seems to point to this being the case.

Frank is seen with Petrov in a less than copacetic meeting with the Putin-esque stand-in. It's clear that things in the meeting are not going well. Not-Putin looks very unhappy even when Frank tries to shake his hand.

Teaser Trailer For House Of Cards Hints At Trouble Between Clair And Frank

We also saw a few military burials in the credits. Could these be connected? We know that things for Frank will start to unravel, could his more public unraveling be with Russians?

It's possible that Frank's choices could lead the country into an engagement with the Russians and where American politics failed to take Frank down, the Russian way of doing things could certainly succeed where others have fallen.

Either way, it's clear that things will start to go downhill for the President in the upcoming season. It's lonely at the top and in Frank's case, it looks like it might be dangerous as well.

House of Cards returns on February 27 to Netflix. Seasons one and two are currently streaming so it's time to catch up.
