New Super Smash Bros For Wii U 8-Player Smash Stages Released: Update Adds In Mario Circuit, Smashville, And More For Big Battles

Super Smash Bros For Wii U Gets New Stages For 8 Player Battles In Update

Eight-player Smash Bros is one of the best features in the Wii U version of the game, and an update is providing more ways to enjoy the new mode.

As seen in the video below, Nintendo is patching in new stages compatible with eight-player battles, expanding the somewhat small choice of levels. The footage, courtesy of GameXplain, shows off the new selection screen with the added stages.

As displayed in the video, the new stages are as follows: Mario Circuit (Brawl), Luigi's Mansion, Pyrosphere, Norfair, Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium 2, Town and City, Smashville, and Wii Fit Studio. For Omega stages, you can now also play Mario Galaxy, Mario Circuit, The Great Cave Offensive, Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium 2, and Town and City.

There's not really any downside to this one--more stages, more choices, more fun. Some fans will undoubtedly begin asking where stage X or Y is, but there's not much to criticize about a free update. There seems to be no word from Nintendo on this, but the footage (unless doctored and delivered in extraordinarily convincing fashion) is there for you all to see.

Eight-player smash was something I praised highly in my Super Smash Bros for Wii U review, and it's great to see the choice for the mode expanded further. What might seem too frantic or crowded to work is pulled off well, even if some of the players are computer-controlled. If you have a chance, definitely try it out.
