Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs And Details: Super High Resolution Display And Curved Edge Model Revealed

Samsung Galaxy S6 Will Come In Two High-Powered Models, One With A Curved Display

Samsung has revealed its Galaxy S6 smartphone at Mobile World Congress, showing off a design that bucks the trend of its predecessors.

The Galaxy line has sported a plastic chassis in past years despite its competitors at Apple and HTC offering a higher quality metal casing, but Samsung has now joined the party. The Galaxy S6 will launch this April in full metal and glass, and will come in two variations: The Galaxy S6 and Samsung S6 Edge.

The latter version is a model with a curved display, which wraps partially around both sides of the device--not just one like the Note Edge. Samsung said the designs were not based on the previous versions of the phone, though the resemblance may make you think otherwise.

The Galaxy S6 boasts a 2560 x 1440 AMOLED 5.1-inch display with 577 pixels per inch, which looks incredible according to the hands-on reports of Gizmodo and others. As Samsung then explained, the unncessarily-high-for-a-mobile-device resolution was included because the phone can be strapped into Samsung's Gear VR headset, which requires super high fidelity to be effective.

The camera is 16 MP with a 5MP front-facing sensor, and the processor is the high-powered Exynos chip with eight cores and 3 GB of RAM. The TouchWiz software is staying put, though with less bloatware built in

Sadly for devoted Samsung fans, there will be no more removable battery or SD card, largely a consequence of the metal casing. The 2550 mAh battery will hopefully be able to keep up with the demanding display and processor, because you won't be able to switch it out.
