Evil Geniuses Crowned Deserved HCS Season 1 Winners, CLG & Noble Provide An All-Time Great Series

Evil Geniuses have been crowned the Halo Championship Series Season 1 champions, taking home first place at the PAX East finals earlier today.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Matchmaking Works Smoothly After The Latest Update

The EG squad--consisting of Snipedown, Roy, Lunchbox, and Lethul--defeated battle-weary CLG in the Grand Finals in impressive fashion, winning all three games of the series in succession. The team has been crowned the Season 1 champions, and take home $50,000 of the $100,000 prize pool.

EG and CLG (Ogre 2, Heinz, Snakebite, and Royal 2) had met the previous round in the Winners Bracket finals, where they played a very close series all the way to game 5. CLG couldn't clutch it, and were forced into a series against Noble Black (Arkanum, Maniac, APG, Aries) in the losers bracket, which ended up becoming one of the greatest Halo rounds of all time as CLG fought back to force a Game 5.

No winner was decided after Game 5 ended in a tie, and as a result a shortened five-minute replay on Shrine Team Slayer was conducted. Only one match was needed to win the series, but in every one of those games a last second kill tied the score and forced yet another replay, occuring an astonishing four times until CLG finally came away with a slim victory. Whenever it seemed one side had the upper hand, a late push or clutch sniper shot would tied the game--the crowd, commentators, and players themselves could not believe what was happening, and both sides can be proud of the entertaining games.

The long series presumably took a lot out of CLG mentally and physically, as the team was not particularly sharp facing EG in the Grand Finals. The series wasn't nearly as close as it was in the Winners Finals, and EG stomped to victory over three games. CLG performed admirably, gave us a thrilling Losers Finals, and will take home $20,000 for its efforts. EG were the deserved winners on the weekend, and we'll have to wait until April to see what's in store for the team in Season 2.
