Two New Free 'Evolve' Maps Incoming: New Environments Add Mining Cave And Industrial Settings [SCREENS]

Turtle Rock and 2K Games have released brand new screens for two free maps coming for Evolve players, new locations that will change up the the game completely.

The 'Broken Hill Mine' and 'Broken Hill Foundry' maps will be completely free for all owners, but the Xbox One will be getting it first this March 31. PC and PS3 gamers will have to be patient (although envious) until April 30, when it will become available on their platforms. Certainly won't make a lot of fans happy to hear this, but at least it will be free.

Both maps offer new campaign effects that take place when playing through Evolve's Evacuation campaign, which as any player will tell you is the only real way to play it. Lets take a closer look at these maps.

The Broken Hill Mine:

Set in a bohrium mine on Shear, it features a series of tunnels that divides into three different areas. One is a rock quarry, one has a venom hound nest, and the last has a huge conveyor belt going through it. To make up for the lack of verticality inside the mine the Monster can find hidden destructible shorcuts in order to sneak away from the Hunters, or sneak up on them. Stealth is going to be key here, cause it's all about close-quarter combat, which should really give the map a unique feel.

Here are the two new effects that can take place depending on who wins.

- Hunter Win: Mining Drones get repurposed as Shield Drones for the Hunter team in the next match.

- Monster Win: Destroying the mining drill makes the environment tectonically unstable. The resulting earthquakes will flush out birds from the surrounding areas, deceiving the Hunters as to where the Monster is really located.

That monster win one is huge! Another map has the ability to place many more birds in the map, making it tricky for the monster to get around, so this is a nice counterpoint to that.

The Broken Hill Foundry:

This is located just above the mines, and is the place that smelts the bohrium unearthed by the mine. This is an industrial complex in ruins, which contains a mix of open areas and corridors. There are street and roofs and a warehouse in which to do battle. What's more- there are crates of bohrium scattered around, which the Monster can eat as food. Breaking them open can give away the location, however.

Here are the new campaign effects for the map.

- Hunter Win: Energy-dense bohrium is used to supercharge the Hunter’s jetpacks.

- Monster Win: Destroying the foundry engulfs the Monster in bohrium gas, making its melee attacks even more powerful.

We have to say, it's great to see Evolve trying out new locations. Variety in maps is one of the things that's sorely missing from the main game, and the inclusion of the spectator mode (as well as all the planned DLC content) will help to ensure it thrives the community thrives in the future.

You can tune into Twitch today at 4:00 p.m. PT and on Friday at 3:00 p.m. PT to see the maps in action.
