'Endgame: Proving Ground' Mobile Title Announced: Beta Registration Open For Augmented Reality Game From 'Ingress' Developer
Google's Niantic Labs, creators of popular mobile game Ingress, has revealed its next project. Titled Endgame: Proving Ground, it will also be based on real-location gameplay, and set in the established Endgame universe.
In Endgame: Proving Ground, players will "join one of the original 12 Lines of humanity and participate in an interactive story spanning real-world locations across the globe." Players can customize characters and compete in virtual player-vs-player (PvP) battles using their mobile devices near special "Key Sites" scattered around the world.
The Endgame universe is based on the transmedia project by author James Frey, and it's part novel and part augmented reality. You can find more about it in this article at The Verge, which provides good background for what exactly the property is. You can learn more about Ingress and the concept behind the gameplay from our coverage last year.
You can sign up now for the beta at the game's website, AncientSocieties.com, where you can already begin the story. There you can meet Stella, a guide who will take you through videos and interactive puzzles set in the universe. A new version of the site has launched today, and players can begin to earn points and achievements for a place on a global leaderboard.
