Windows 10 Release Date Coming This Summer In 190 Countries

Windows 10, Microsoft's next operating system, will be arriving this summer.

All Windows Phone 8 Devices Will Upgrade To Windows 10 In The Future

Microsoft announced today that the software (the next release after Windows 8, skipping anything titled Windows 9) will be hitting 190 countries in 111 languages. There is no specific launch date set at this time.

The company comitted to upgrading users to Windows 10 for free, a big announcement for those using the much-maligned Windows 8. Anyone who had a machine with Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 7 within the first year of Windows 10's release will get the new OS at no cost.

Windows 10 won't just power traditional PCs--much like 8, it will be the software behind mobile devices, tablets, and anything in between. Windows 8's Metro interface, made up of the now-infamous live tiles, attempted to make software that worked for mobile touchscreen devices and PC, but it was unecessary and cumbersome for the latter. Good clean designs of Windows 7 went out the door in favor of these conessions, and removing traditional features of Windows that ruined user understanding was not a popular choice.

The new OS will relegate these live tiles to a customizable start menu, and hopefully the compromise will be more in line with what users are looking for. Stay tuned for more news and details as the summer approaches.
