Batman Arkham Knight Release Date Delayed Again, Pushed Back To Later In June

The release date for Batman: Arkham Knight has once again been pushed back.

The new delay is not as severe as the original, which saw the game move entirely out of its planned launch year. The game is now due out on June 23, rather than the previously scheduled June 2.

The announcement came through the game's official Twitter account today, so this change is locked in (barring, you know, another delay). The much bigger delay (Arkham Knight was originally set for October 2014) is what really tested fans' patience, and this one will really just be a minor irritation to those waiting to get their hands on the title. Rocksteady followed up with a brief explanation:

"We're a developer that hates to make any compromises, so we are sorry to say this means it's going to be just a little bit longer until you can play the epic conclusion to the Arkham trilogy. As a reward for your patience and understanding, and to make the wait even more unbearable, we are pleased to whet your appetite with a new gameplay video of Batman: Arkham Knight.

"Thanks so much from everyone at Rocksteady for your continued support. We are working as hard as we can to make you proud."

I'm all for quality control--many games released broken last year, and the more and more have been delaying release to ensure quality. That was certainly the case for the big delay of Arkham Knight, and it seems the team wants just a bit more time to make the game as good as possible.

We have at least been getting plenty of new footage from Warner Bros and Rocksteady, and it looks like the game is shaping up quite well. Another video (below) has been released today as compensation for the delay, so enjoy nearly eight minutes of new footage. Visually, Arkham Knight is really impressive--a showcase for what can be done when a game is releasing on current generation consoles only. Hopefully the gameplay and depth live up to the glimpses we've seen so far--we'll know this June, but will have to wait just a little longer.
