A necessary public service announcement for the many fans of Twitch out there: the game streaming site has suffered a security breach, and reset all passwords by default to protect accounts.

A post on Twitch's blog today confirmed concerns over the service's temporary outage earlier in the day, explaining that someone acquired unauthorized access to user accounts:

"We are writing to let you know that there may have been unauthorized access to some Twitch user account information.

For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube. As a result, you will be prompted to create a new password the next time you attempt to log into your Twitch account.

We also recommend that you change your password at any website where you use the same or a similar password. We will communicate directly with affected users with additional details."

You heard the warning--change your information! They already reset all passwords by default, so you'll have to make a new one. They do recommend you change the passwords for your other accounts if you use the same one in multiple places, and while I know that can be highly irritating, it's probably still a good idea. The extent of the breach is pretty unclear--the post doesn't do much to tell us what was accessed--but you're definitely better safe than sorry.
