This past Saturday, the first of two lunar eclipses in 2015 provided some amazing views from our planet. The moon was dimmed, partially obscured, and at some points took on a red glow that has been dubbed the "blood moon". The first set of images come from Los Angeles, California. In the first picture, photographer David McNew captured the moon behind downtown high-rise buildings before dawn. The eclipse will be the shortest of the century, with the moment of totality lasting only about five minutes. The Getty caption explains that the eclipse is particularly brief because the moon is passing through the upper part of the Earth's circular shadow rather than across the middle, which would have made it last longer.
