Another victory for Apple as a California judge has granted Apple a patent-related injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
After Judge Lucy Koh found that Samsung's Galaxy Tab infringed on Apple patents, and so too does its Galaxy Nexus. Provided Apple posts another bond, this time in the amount of $96 million (which Apple could find between the cushions of its couch), then the Nexus will be pulled from store shelves.
The exact patent that was the subject of the infringment was known as the "Siri patent." Like the most recent iPhone model, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus also provided a voice-activated assistant at the time of its release. The remaining three patents mentioned in the case, the slide-to-unlock, data tapping, and autocorrect, were features that, according to Judge Koh, did not drive consumer demand, or cause irreparable harm, so they weren't much of a factor in the court case.
If the ruling is ever reversed, then Samsung gets that amount back for losses it suffered while the Nexus was unavailable. A spokesman for Samsung has said that "Samsung will continue to take all available measures, including legal action to ensure the Galaxy Nexus remains available to consumers."
Apple still has plans to go for the hat trick against Samsung. Next in its sights? The Galaxy S3.
