The event has been five years in the making and players will finally come face to face with the Iconians - a villainous race who have been waiting patiently for thousands of years for their moment to strike. Think the Flood, think Sargeras, think Reapers. All powerful, consuming beings who are bent on one thing only: destruction. And it's up to you in your Federation of Klingon or Romulan ship to turn back the tide.

The free update adds new gameplay enhancements, newly revamped sectors in the vast Milky Way "that allows players to navigate the Alpha, Beta and Delta Quadrants uninhibited. Players will also be able to participate in additional queues and develop their pilot specialization further as it moves from a secondary to primary specialization" and finally, reconfigured specializations for many classes and ships. It also "introduces two Star Trek: Voyager cast members - Robert McNeill and Lisa LoCicero - who will reprise their roles of Tom and Miral Paris, and add to the already large pool of Star Trek franchise actors."

The Iconians are the stuff of legend in the Star Trek universe, a race of conquerors who were said to have been wiped out several hundred thousand years ago, only to go into hiding. They were only ever mentioned in passing, both in Next Gen and Voyager until Star Trek Online crafted them into the ultimate villains of the series.

Star Trek Online is entirely free to play. So join up and take the fight to those invaders today HERE.
