'Final Fantasy IV: The After Years' Steam Release Date: Sequel To Beloved Classic Gets Full 3D Makeover This May [VIDEO]

Steam Release Date Confirmed For ;Final Fantasy IV: The After Years;, Mobile Game Gets A Full 3D Makeover This May

Final Fantasy IV is one of the most beloved, yet oddly quiet, entries into the series. It was the first to add many of the game's signature mechanics, including the Active Time Battle, a large assortment of characters to pick and well defined classes for each. So beloved is it, that back in 2008 it got its own sequel, subtitled The After Years. And now that sequel is heading to Steam.

Set 17 years after the events of Final Fantasy IV, The After Years follows Prince Ceodore, the child of famed FF character Cecil and Rosa who were married at the end of the original. The game has received a full graphical overhaul, including new 3D gameplay and cinematics, and a wealth of Steam achievements and mechanics.

Given that there are now two moons in the sky - a very long story to tell - The After Years is very aware of the influence that can bring to the world below. As such, the game will feature a unique day/night system based around the lunar calendar; abilities can be weakened or heightened depending on the current lunar phase.

The game is divided into ten chapters. "Begin your journey with "Ceodore's Tale." Complete it to unlock the chapters of six additional characters, which can be played in any order, and then return to the core story with "Kain's Tale," "The Lunarian's Tale," and "The Crystals." In addition to the story mode behind many of the characters, you can also band their abilities together to form some impressive attacks against your enemies.

The new trailer is full of nostalgia, adventure and excitement. Watch it below. Final Fantasy IV: The After Years hits Steam on May 12 and is currently available for pre-order for 10% off.
