Nintendo has been final branching out from its traditional games-only model in recent years, embracing DLC and amiibo figures amongst other things, and it will now be breaking out into Universal theme parks.

Pokemon Trading Card Game' Expansion 'XY - Roaring Skies' Released

"Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts today announced plans to bring the world of Nintendo to life at Universal theme parks - creating spectacular, dedicated experiences based on Nintendo's wildly popular games, characters and worlds," said the press release.

"Universal theme parks offer incredibly popular, innovative themed family entertainment experiences based on compelling stories and characters - using powerful storytelling and innovative technology. Nintendo has created remarkable and imaginative worlds filled with captivating stories and beloved characters. Now, for the first time, those stories and characters will be brought to life in entirely new ways - only at Universal theme parks."

DragonVale Cooperative Breeding Feature Introduced In Latest Update

The experiences will include "major attractions", and will feature "Nintendo's most famous characters and games." I don't think many saw this announcement coming, but it's pretty cool for fans. Universal in Orlando has themed areas such as Harry Potter World, so a Nintendo-themed area won't be too out of place. We have no idea what to expect in terms of rides or characters used, but surely the major players--Mario, Luigi, Toad, Yoshi, etc--will feature prominently.
