'The Witcher 3' Xbox One Gameplay Video Shows 900p To 1080p Dynamic Scaling, Resolution Will Adapt To Action

Watch New 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' Xbox One Gameplay Footage, With Dynamic Scaling From 900p To 1080p

The release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is finally (finally) approaching after a series of delays, and we've started to see an increasing amount of gameplay footage pop up as May 19 draws closer.

Today CD Projekt RED released a new video of Xbox One gameplay, showing off the game's high fidelity visuals on console. The graphical showcases have all been on PC, but perhaps the developers wanted to show that the current generation console editions are no slouches, either.

In particular, the video description notes that the footage is showing dynamic scaling from 900p to 1080p. Dynamic scaling means the resolution will fluctuate on Xbox One depending on what's ocurring during the game at that time, jumping up and down between 900p and 1080p. The resolution isn't quite what you'll see on some PC rigs, but it looks great regardless (the moving resolution will both some hardcore visual enthusiasts, undoutedly). Some of the muddying in the video actually seems to be the result of YouTube compression--the website GamerSyde has posted a high quality version of the footage, and it definitely seems even clearer.

As for the gameplay, we get a sampling of different activities. Geralt is shown riding a horse through the expansive world, getting into combat, and exploring on foot. We learned last month that The Witcher 3's open world will feature no loading screens for traveling across the land (a few small story exceptions aside)--an impressive feat for what is supposed to be a huge game world. Earlier today, it was announced that the title has already sold a huge number of copies. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 19.
