'Assassin's Creed Syndicate' Officially Revealed: Details & Gameplay Of The New Victorian London Adventure

The reports on Ubisoft's big reveal are now confirmed: the publisher today announced Assassin's Creed Syndicate in a planned online unveiling.

Project CARS Releases Today On PS4 & Xbox One In North America

Both the name and setting were as expected, with the new game taking us to Victorian London. The fall release date trend continues as well--Syndicatewill launch October 23 for PS4 and Xbox One. A PC release will follow later in the fall.

Kotaku correctly reported on the name, dual gender protagonists, and setting well before the reveal, but the premiere today filled in some details. The exact starting year is 1868, and it will star twins Jacob and Evie Frye. To my personal surprise, we saw a lot of gameplay today, as well as some words from the developers. For a first reveal I thought we may only get a name and CGI trailer, but Ubisoft went all out. You can watch the pre-alpha gameplay video and the CGI trailer below.

Assassin's Creed Unity launched with a host of issues, namely many supremely distracting bugs and glitches. Ubisoft slowly improved the game with a series of extensive patches, but it certainly harmed the title's reception (and likely, the franchise's reputation).

Ubisoft acknowledged these failings in the live stream today with words from the developers discussing where they went wrong, so perhaps Syndicate will avoid past mistakes. That said, here we are with another major Assassin's Creed title just a year later, despite the clearly rushed and not market-readUnity. Hopefully the developers really can avoid the issues this time around, but be cautious about throwing your money their way before seeing howSyndicate pans out.
