'The Last Of Us 2' Release Date, News & Update: Naughty Dog Game Could Get Green Lit After 'Uncharted 4' DLC Is Done

Fans who can't wait to get their hands on "The Last of Us 2" should wait a little longer, a new report suggested.  As Games Radar suggested, the highly anticipated sequel could only get developed after Naughty Dog is finished with the "Uncharted 4" DLC.

Creative director Neil Druckmann dished on their new timeline for the project, given that it has already been given the green light. "Before my partner, Bruce [Straley] and I, my directing partner, came on to Uncharted 4 we were working on prototypes for different ideas within The Last Of Us universe," Druckmann said. "Without going into specific genres [there were] ideas outside the The Last Of Us."

"Our next focus is the single player [Uncharted 4] DLC and then, once we have enough resources, resurrect all those prototypes; see where we're at, see where the teams at, what they're excited for and go from there," he added.

Previous reports have already suggested that the "The Last of Us 2" release date could already be in the horizon, but no official confirmation from Naughty Dog has been made.  Christian Today once mentioned that the development of the follow-up title could already be in development. This was however halted when Druckmann and his team decided to shift gears and focus on "Uncharted 4" work instead.

There have been several speculations online about the probable plot of the sequel.  While many are clamouring to see Ellie and Joel return to continue where the first game left off, others would rather have a sequel with a new set of characters.

Apart from "The Last of Us 2" release date, fans are also waiting for more details about the rumored "The Last of Us" movie.  The film adaptation will reportedly be released ahead of the new game.
