Google and Levi Strauss 'Smart Jacket' To Start New Fashion Trend [VIDEO]

In an age where ‘wearables’ continue to pile up, Google may have another fashionable solution with the “Smart Jacket”. The new concept was introduced at the Google I/O 2016, a new solution that will require the assistance of well-known jeans maker Levi Strauss.

At the moment, folks are familiar with ‘smart wearables’ in the form of watches and bands. Ideally, most are used to spur up fashion, a modern way of making calls or reading messages and aiding in health-related stuff.

The “Smart Jacket” on the other hand offers a mix of those and plenty more. The commuter smart jacket will arm potential owners the ability to answer phone calls, control maps, play music and more. These are just some of the features of the wearable which are tied up to the sleeve.

The smart jackets are geared for release in the Spring of 2017 though some beta versions are set to be out by the Fall of this year. There is no word on how much these jackets may cost though it is something geared for cyclists who can take advantage of the with gesture, tap, and swipe functionalities it will offer.

The solution is a result of Google’s collaboration with Levi Strauss where the Project Jacquard technology is in play. This technology originates from the Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) of Google, something that was announced last year.

The new solution is something worth looking into though it doesn’t look like ‘smart wearables’ will be limited to Levis alone. Google has plans to partner with other clothing companies and all this is seen as a new shift to offer advanced athletic clothing that will surely appeal to the techies moving forward, particularly the ones who put premium on style.
