‘No Man’s Sky’ Delay Sparks Hatred: Reporters, Developers Receive Death Threats Over Delay

"No Man's Sky" was initially set to be released this June however, it was unexpectedly delayed and fans did not take it well. The reporter who first hinted on the delay and the game developers are now receiving death threats.

Fans' Inexplicable Reaction

When Kotaku Jason Schreier reported on a possible delay on the June release date of "No Man's Sky," fans were quick to grill the reporter, Forbes reported. Not only was the reporter attacked by fans, but he also received death threats over the report.

However, when Schreier's unnamed sources proved correct, fans are now threatening the game developer Hello Games for the delay. Earlier this week, Hello Games confirmed rumor of the released date, ARS Technica reported.

"No Man's Sky" will now be released in August, a few weeks more from the intended release date in June. Fans are now directing their threats to Hello Games founder Sean Murray.

Death Threats To Writers And Game Developers

Gamerant reported that Schreier is coping well despite the death threats and online lambasting after the "No Man's Sky" report. In an update by Kotaku, he said that he wasn't really bothered by the threatening messages he received.

His experience writing for Kotaku has prepared him well for online trolls and unsettling messages. However, he did report to Twitter one user and the user has since been suspended.

Rage Becoming A Norm

What baffled many writers is the fact that fans have an unusual reaction towards the delay of "No Man's Sky." This is not the first time that a game is delayed for releasing.

Developers of Oculus and Skyrim are well familiar with this drama. However, journalists have expressed concern on how this reaction has become the norm.

Some fans still blamed Schreier for the delay even when Hello Games already confirmed the rumor. Both sides are now being blamed for the delay.

For a game that hasn't been tried or released, the reaction is quite overwhelming. It goes beyond the usual outrage for slight delay of a supposedly chill game.
