Konami Announces New 'Metal Gear Solid' Game But Fans Aren't Happy

Konami released that they would be developing a new "Metal Gear Solid" game. However, it seems that fans are displeased with the announcement.

Hideo Kojima cut his ties with Konami when he was about to finish the development of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." During that time, fans were very worried about the continuation of the series. It seems that their fears have come true with the release of this new Metal Gear Solid project.

The new Metal Gear Solid game deviates from the usual gameplay of the series. Konami will be revisiting "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater," one of the best among the series, but there's a catch. It looks like fans will not get a continuation of the Snake Eater's adventures, or even an upgrade in High Definition. It seems like Konami is making a pachinko game based on the title, instead.

A pachinko game is a kind of arcade game that involves the unpredictability of a pinball game, Metro said. It also has the slot machine's low gambling stakes. These arcade units are widely played in Japan. They usually make use of characters that come from established and popular media franchises to attract players. This time around, Konami will be using Metal Gear Solid as a theme for a Pachinko unit.

For some gaming experts, Konami's move is not a surprise. Last year, the studio announced that they plan to de-prioritize the development of console based games. They said that they would be concentrating on other platforms. Given this information, it is now clear why they opted to make a Metal Gear Solid pachinko based game.

It seems that Konami has been planning on making more pachinko games. Back in 2015 they registered "Big Boss" as a trademark via its pachinko-concentrated subsidiary. More so, the company was clear that they aimed to use the Metal Gear Solid theme in creating more casual games. However, spoilers before their recent revelation suggested that the new game would have more substance than a pachinko platform.

Now that the plans are out, fans are asking if there is a better alternative to the project. However, circumstances are different now since Kojima has left the studio. Now that the visionary director is gone to direct a new game, some fans express their plight that they would rather see Metal Gear Solid retire than accept and suffer from inferior quality sequels, Game Rant reported.
