'The Winds of Winter' Release Date, News & Updates: George R. R. Martin Recovers From Balticon Illness, Working On More Chapters?

"The Winds of Winter" release date might be moved up to this year. George R. R. Martin has just confirmed that he is feeling much better after being ill at Balticon. Is the "A Song of Ice and Fire" author working on a new chapter for "The Winds of Winter?"

Last week, George R. R. Martin posted on his LiveJournal that he wasn't feeling well after his appearance at Balticon. "I seem to have brought the plague home with me," the writer of "The Winds of Winter" shared.

Fans were immediately worried about George R. R. Martin's condition. Luckily, the "ASOIAF" author has been posting updates on his blog. "The Winds of Winter" writer confirmed that he has recovered from the "crud."

"Feeling much better now, though I am still sipping tea with lemsip a couple times a day to keep the chest congestion down," Martin wrote.

George R. R. Martin posted the update on June 12. The author also mentioned "The Winds of Winter," expressing his glee over the reception of the Damphair chapter.

Oh, and he also confirmed that there will be more Damphair chapters in the sixth "ASOIAF" book (via LiveJournal).

So is George R. R. Martin currently writing a new Damphair chapter for "The Winds of Winter?" There have been no updates on his blog.

Hopefully, the writer is working on Jon Snow's chapter in the sixth "ASOIAF" novel.

In "A Song of Ice and Fire," Jon Snow's last "A Dance with Dragons" chapter featured his shocking murder. The men of the Night's Watch had left him for dead as he utters his last word, "Ghost."

The scene was later changed in "Game of Thrones" Season 5 so Jon does not call for his direwolf. But what is Jon Snow's fate in "The Winds of Winter?"

Hopefully, George R. R. Martin has big plans for the beloved character that would extend beyond "Game of Thrones."

"The Winds of Winter" release date is still scheduled for early 2017.
