OnePlus X Release Date, News, Rumors & Update: CEO Pete Lau Bares New Focus? Things You Need To Know

The OnePlus 3 is officially out following its launch in Shenzen but the event was also the bearer of bad news as far as company direction is concerned.

Like most smartphone companies, there would usually be more than one brand offered in the market. Unfortunately OnePlus has decided to focus on purely one model which means that other models like the OnePlus X will be a casualty.

No Follow Up to OnePlus X

With OnePlus opting to focus on one ‘true flagship’, CEO Pete Lau confirmed via Engadget that the OnePlus X will not have a sequel. The move was not enticed by the OnePlus X’s performance in the market but rather on company focus.

Lau emphasized that OnePlus is planning to strengthen its foundation rather than engage in the low-end price war in the mobile phone market as mentioned on Phandroid. The long-term plan would include addressing other services such as the company’s Oxygen OS and Hydrogen OS which have so far been moving at a snail’s pace.

OnePlus Sticking To Current Marketing Strategy

With the OnePlus X dead, the issue on how OnePlus would be able to make it all work with a single phone is up in the air. The company’s marketing strategy could be improved, something that may have already started with the elimination of the ‘invite-only’ scheme which OnePlus had started off with.

Lau explains that OnePlus will continue to invest in after-sales services and offer more lifestyle products to help promote his brand.

On the topic of advertising, Lau reiterates that OnePlus will continue to avoid the traditional channels so that it can maintain the affordable pricing and savings their customers are enjoying.

Despite the move, Lau is confident that OnePlus will still profit with the company performing well in regions like Europe, India and the US.
