What began as a little known project, known as Adrift developed by the Paris-based DONTNOD Entertainment has now taken shape into a superb-looking open world game.
The game now titled Remember Me was unveiled by its publisher Capcom at Gamescom.
The game is set in neo-Paris in the year 2084, it puts the character of Nilin a "memory hunter," and a member of Errorist group who is set to knock down Memoreyes a corporation that has the power to buy, sell, and reconfigure memories of people. Nilin, who manages to erase her memory escapes from Bastille prison and is on a mission to hunt and track the enemies in order to get her memory back.
Nilin can do a variety of attacks on her enemies like "Logic Bomb" and "Memory Remix". The gameplay seems to be tantalizing. This game is only for Current generation consoles. A very unusual move from Capcom. The game will be released for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 on May 2013. Xbox and PlayStation will be releasing newer consoles by the end of 2013, and it's seen as a bad business practice by video game publishers to release a game at the end of a console cycle.
"The thing is, if you leave it too late into next year, then you are starting to straddle that line where you're starting to move into the next generation consoles," said Mat Hart, senior producer Capcom. "And what we wanna do is make sure we launch this on the current generation of consoles, to really sell it in, and establish it as a new IP. And then build the franchise out in line with the new consoles coming out."
Christian Svensson, senior vice president of Capcom came relayed similar comments in the Capcom forum, "Companies have successfully introduced new IP late in the cycle... God of War is a shining example. New IP is the life's blood of a game company. It's never the lion's share of resources, but a reasonable percentage needs to go into "the new." Without doing so, a company will eventually go into a death spiral. We need to always be innovating and trying new things if we're going to have new franchises for the future."
So we can expect a many more Remember Me type games in the future.
