WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Dean Ambrose Ends Up As New Heavyweight Champion

WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Dean Ambrose Ends Up As New Heavyweight Champion

Dean Ambrose won the 2016 WWE Money in the Bank briefcase but didn’t bother to wait and cashed in as previously speculated here on Game n Guide.

A previous post tackled on the possibility of seeing an immediate cash-in, especially if the winner would be Dean Ambrose. Of the combatants, Ambrose was seen as the likely one to do the improbable and cash-in even if Seth Rollins warned the 2016 MOTB winner from doing so.

Ambrose outfoxes five others for 2016 MOTB briefcase

In what was expectedly a hellacious match, one can just imagine the state of the 2016 WWE Money in the Bank winner when the smoke cleared. It all boiled down to Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens with the “Lunatic Fringe” standing out via WWE.com.

But, the night was not yet over for Ambrose, seeing that he still had the energy for another (short) match.

Seth Rollins regains title but loses it again

More questions shrouded Seth Rollins’ official return to the ring, technically his first match since November.

Since emerging at WWE Payback, Rollins never officially wrestled a match and concerns about his knee and ring rust were in the air.

Rollins did have some timing issues but it was evident that the “Architect” still had it. Rollins outwitted Reigns on various occasions, offsetting the power that the “Big Dog” carried including a mid-air ‘pedigree’ move on Reigns who was going for his patented ‘spear’.

In the end, Rollins planted his finisher and just like that the WWE heavyweight title was back in his arms.

Dean Ambrose Cashes In

Just as Rollins was celebrating, Ambrose’s music hit and everyone knew what was going to happen next.

After hitting Rollins with the briefcase, Ambrose would officially cash in and it took only one “Dirty Deeds” finisher to pin Rollins and steal the title from under the nose of the returning “Architect”.

The sequence saw the WWE title moving from one “Shield” member to the next, ultimately landing into the lap of the WWE’s fan favorite via Forbes.

Rematch or Triple Threat?

With Ambrose now the new WWE champion, who gets first crack at the title? Rollins or Reigns?

Right now it looks like Rollins will have the inside track but Reigns is likely to want a shot of his own. What will Shane McMahon come up with? How about a ‘Triple Threat’ match for the title?

With WWE Raw expected to air, it will be interesting if a match or the WWE title happens. If not, it could be more of a setup to the WWE’s next pay-per-view, WWE Battleground which happens on July 24 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
