Heavenly Sword 2: Alleged Concept Art Leaked

In a desolate desert, the crimson-haired warrior gallantly vaults forward and brings her glimmering sword down and across the chest of several of her enemies with a great slanting swipe. The mighty incision slashing through collarbones, sternums and skulls.

This scene appears to be the first image of allegedly leaked concept art for the unannounced but supposedly planned Heavenly Sword 2. The images showcases female protagonist Nariko in what appears to be a battle in a desert.

The set of nine images appeared on the gaming site AllGamesBeta and are rumored to be from the planned sequel to the 2007 Ninja Theory's PlayStation 3 exclusive.

The original's gameplay focused on martial arts and melee combat with opportunities for ranged attacks. Nariko's main weapon was called the "Heavenly Sword" and the blade could changes into one of three forms depending on what attack stance the player uses as part of a unique fighting style. When it was released the game was compared to God Of War.

According to IGN, these allegedly leaked concept pieces are pretty similar to the supporting artwork that was released before the original. The game was originally planned as being the first in a trilogy, but developer Ninja Theory has recently focused on cross-platform development. The first Heavenly Sword sold over one million copies, but was not the break out hit that it was expected to be.

When the game was first released, Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades said in an interview, "we've had the story for the sequel for a while now. Hopefully, if this game is successful, then there's no reason why there shouldn't be a sequel and we'd very much like to go into that."

Ninja Theory is currently readying a multi-platform release of the Devil May Cry reboot, which is due out on Jan. 15, 2013. So it is highly doubtful that a Heavenly Sword sequel will be released with in the next year or two.

You can check out all of the leaked concept art at AllGamesBeta.
