'Mass Effect: Andromeda' Latest News, Release Date & Update: BioWare To Introduce Female Protagonist, A Book Series Based On The Whole 'Mass Effect' Stories Coming

The whole video game series, ''Mass Effect," has been known for having a male lead character since it started. Now, BioWare is trying to introduce a female antagonist to portray Ryder in the upcoming "Mass Effect Andromeda."

BioWare Female Protagonist

With an interview with Eurogamer, one of the superiors of BioWAre, Aaryn Flynn, revealed the reason why they are launching a new female character in "Mass Effect Andromeda."

"You don't need to see a character to identify with, in the same way, you might on a movie poster. People want to create their own characters, customize them, and we're embracing that," Aaryn Flynn explained.

To recall, BioWare first presented a male Commander Shepard 10 years ago in "Mass Effect" as influenced by the traditional entertainment marketing of that time, according to Attack of the Fanboy.

Aaryn Flynn thought that they, too, have to have their own iconic character and so it resulted with Commander Shepard in the original "Mass Effect," but BioWare and the whole gaming world moved beyond the traditional male characters.

BioWare now lets the gamers choose what gender their protagonists' carry, which other game developers also do.

A Book Cycle For The 'Mass Effect' Series

The "Mass Effect" trilogy along with the much-awaited "Mass Effect: Andromeda" will have a new book series from Titan Books, as per GameSpot.

"The novels will act as prequel and sequels to the events in the games and will become part of the overarching Mass Effect saga," a line from the description of the coming "Mass Effect" series from Titan Book's website read.

The novels will be based on the major characters of the "Mass Effect" series and the questions that have been puzzling the fans will be answered.

It will be composed of four parts, the first one is "Mass Effect Andromeda: Initiation" and will be published in August 2016 penned by N. K. Jemisin.

The fourth series will be written by the "Mass Effect" series writer himself, Mac Walters as expected to be released in March 2018.

However, the second and third book installments are not yet announced but scheduled to be out in March and September 2017.

The game "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is set to be launched in 2017.
