LG to Launch Games for its Smart TV

South Korean-based LG announced it will be opening up Games World so users can access games as apps on Smart TVs reports VentureBeat.

After smartphones and tablets, Web-connected TVs will be the "next major platform for apps," VentureBeat said. But these smart TVs will not succeed if there are without the popular gaming apps that are found in just about every digital device.

LG will be coming out with downloadable 3D games which will be in Game World, a new gaming portal that the company is reportedly launching said The Verge. Game World is designed for LG's CINEMA 3D Smart TV line.

It is a user-friendly portal where the user can search, purchase, and play game apps. There are both 2D and 3D games with intuitive interface.

"Game World is a wonderful source of games - especially 3D games - which are suitable for everyone," president and CEO for LG Home Entertainment Company, Havis Kwon, said in the company blog. "Many popular titles will be available along with games developed exclusively for LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs. By making the most of the capabilities of LG 3D TVs, Game World will allow us to push the boundaries of 3D gaming and expand the market."

These games can be played either with Magic Remote from LG or form any third-party game pad. According to LG, the menu bar has four categories: Featured - has the hottest games, Top Chart - has popular games both paid and freeware, New - has most recent games, and Genre - has game titles with categories like action, adventure, arcade, puzzle, RPG, shooter, simulation, sports and strategy. In the menu we will find tutorial consisting with details of instructions for Magic Remote.

The launch is expected to be in the second half of the year. The Verge said that Game World might be demoed at IFA this week.
