It was always a wonder what the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button next to regular search on Google meant.
On Thursday, Google updated the mysterious function making it much clearer as to what the button actually does. Now when you scroll over the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, it will start a spin like effect that will spin out a random new "feeling" out of eight different options said Digital Trends. Each new feeling will bring up different Google product with this update.
Previously "I'm Feeling Lucky" would open random pages that would be related to the keyword entered in the search area. Now with this update the button is independent of the search terms that a user enters.
According to Digital Trends:
For example, upon clicking "I'm feeling playful," the site brought us to the Google Doodle celebrating the 30th Anniversary of PAC-MAN. Selecting "I'm feeling stellar" opens up a Google Image search result for the term "nebulae," which displays "stellar" images of the celestial object. 'I'm feeling trendy' will open up a page for Google Hot Searches, listing the most searched queries by the day. The new options are fun to sample and test your luck.
This update clearly shows that search engine giant is showing its lesser known projects and products. Projects that have been featured include "Google Images, Google Doodles, Google's World Wonders Project, Google Art Project, Google's Google a day and restaurant listings".
"While the 'Lucky' button used to bring you to a single page based on your search term, the Google search system has been updated to a point where that functionality simply no longer exists," SlashGear wrote.
