The war between Samsung and Apple continues.
This time it's over media players.
Samsung announced its new gadget that will attempt take on Apple's iPod Touch, Galaxy Player 5.8.
The new media player has a huge 5.8-inch screen, which the device is named after. It has a resolution of 960x540 pixels, which is low resolution. It will be powered by 2,500mAh battery. it will also be equipped with front facing speakers, 1GB RAM, 16GB or 32 GB storage options, front VGA camera, microSD expansion slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0., and GPS support.
The player will feature educational content, dictionary, and other services. Samsung hopes people will use the player for watching movies, accessing Internet, listening to music and reading books.
Samsung has not given any details of the processor it will be using or the pricing of the player. Samsung cannot price the device more than $200 or $250 since Google's Nexus 7 starts from $200 and is bigger and has higher display resolution.
It will have Android 4.0 and Samsung's latest TouchWiz UI will make its first appearance in this huge media player. The new player was introduced in South Korea. Samsung previously rolled out Galaxy Player 3.6, 4, 4.2, and 5.0.
More details of the Player might emerge at the IFA 2012 at Berlin later this week. Samsung is scheduled to announce new Galaxy Note at IFA on Aug 29.
