'Skyrim' News: Big Mod 'Enderal' Gets Trailer, Release Date [VIDEO]

If you can't wait for the next "Elder Scrolls" game, whether it's the "Skyrim" remaster for next-gen consoles or the next chapter to the story, then this huge third-party, total-conversion mod for the original "Skyrim" might be enough to tide you over.

"Enderal," the sequel to German developer SureAI's "Oblivion" total-conversion mod "Nehrim: At Fate's Edge," completely makes over "Skyrim" by giving it an entirely new setting and story (the same universe as "Nehrim," just placed in a different continent) piggybacking on the game's engine. The 30 to 100-hour story features, much like Skyrim, an entire race under the threat of war and destruction from beings apparently superior and otherworldly than themselves.

The mod, which will be totally free, has been in the works since 2013. Polygon reports that the mod is pretty much like a new game, just using game material from "Skyrim"; SureAI has hired professional voice actors, composers to score original music for its soundtrack, and not to mention the amount of programming effort to create new weapons, armor, and items for the game. To pour in that much for a free mod is an astounding effort, and you probably won't even get that kind of quality from most games you spend money for.

So far the mod will be available only on PC (the German version releasing sometime this weekend, and the English version likely coming a couple of weeks after), but due to the upcoming "Skyrim" remaster allowing mod support for the console versions of the game, it's entirely possible that SureAI could produce a console version of "Enderal."

The remastered "Skyrim" for Xbox One and Playstation 4 will be coming out on October 28, primarily featuring the aforementioned mod support and a gorgeous graphical makeover. Between this and "Enderal," a six-year-old game is about to get a lot of replay value once more.
