Guild Wars 2 Had More Than 1 Million Pre-sales

Guild Wars 2 became an instant hit before it even official launched. The game's pre-sales totaled more than 1 million, according to ArenaNet and NCSoft.

The company offered player who pre-purchased the game before its official release date a chance to play it three days earlier on Saturday as part of its Headstart program.

The sales figure shouldn't come as to much of surprise, considering that the game had seen time atop of the Amazon best sellers list for video games prior to its release.

Guild Wars 2 also managed to not collapse when players flooded the servers. According to game's publisher, Guild Wars 2 had 400,000 players online simultaneously playing during the game's headstart play through.

"This is the culmination of a 5-year journey and to be greeted by this level of enthusiasm by our fans is truly amazing," said Mike O'Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet. "But really our work is just beginning. Now our focus is shifting to building on this living world we've delivered, continuously refining our game and improving services to ensure our players have the best possible experience."

The game released for $60 standard, and a $150 for collector's edition, but after that gamers will not have to pay a monthly subscription fee. Guild Wars 2 is official available for purchase at the official site or at other retailers.

The game appears to be a hit, but so did Bioware's Star Wars: The Old Republic before it lost a ton of subscribers. Hopefully Guild Wars 2 will fare better.
