Nokia has stuck a deal with California-based JBL to partner in the creation of the Lumia-themed PlayUp portable speakers.
Though these look like Nokia's Play 360 speakers, the internals have been upgraded with JBL audio technology that delivers omnidirectional audio, said The Verge.
The Finland-based Nokia and JBL will develop and co-brand this new line of speakers to have wireless connectivity. The speakers will have Bluetooth technology and can be connected with the handheld via its Bluetooth.
"As HARMAN seeks to further collaborate with mobile leaders to bring next generation connectivity technologies to the home and the automobile, working with industry pioneer Nokia provides a tremendous opportunity to expand our own value sets and bring to market unique audio products that meet today's demand for uninterrupted consumer connectivity," said Sachin Lawande, executive vice president of HARMAN and co-president of HARMAN Lifestyle and Infotainment. "Audio is an increasingly mobile experience, following consumers everywhere they go. Developing technologies for wireless portable audio meets the ever-growing demand for immediate and easy accessibility."
The first JBL PlayUp Portable Wireless Speaker for Nokia was unveiled at IFA consumer electronic show in Berlin reported Reuters.
The PlayUp is a cylindrical speaker with physical volume controls and power button in the bottom. The speakers come in typical Lumia color scheme of CMYK, though there is not any magenta colored version as yet.
They are powered by rechargeable batteries that last up to 10 hours and charging can be down via micro-USB and includes a wall adapter as well.
It weighs 760g and measures118 x 118 x 128mm. The speaker comes in with a 3.5mm jack. It pumps 89db of volume.
Nokia says they will start shipping "before year end," and will cost $186.
