Sony Rolls Out New HD Action Camera for POV with Wi-Fi (See Photos)

Sony recently rolled out a new camera made for action sports filming.

The wearable point-of-view video camera is full HD with 1080p.

The new camera, which weighs around three ounces including the battery, is a new ultra-compact POV shooting solution that the company made known years ago when it was a prototype model.

The action camera will be available in two models, the HDR-AS10, a standard camera, and the HDR-AS15, which comes with built-in Wi-Fi.

The camera features an Exmor R CMOS sensor of 16MP and ultra-wide angle Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens. The Exmor R sensor lets you shoot high quality footage in low light. Video captured will be in high quality full HD 1080p. It has image stabilizer, built-in microphone and 4x Slow Motion video capture mode.

This new action camera can be used to film while sky diving or skiing or even underwater diving. It comes with accessories that include adhesive helmet mount, a waterproof ruggedized housing, and a universal tripod mount, adhesive mounts, clamp mount, and a band mount.

The camera is water resistant up to 197 feet and a shock resistance of up to five-foot drops and is also has dirt and dust resistant seals.

"Only Sony can deliver a technology-packed point-of-view action camera that provides simple operation, high quality content, and Wi-Fi capability in a durable package," director of the camcorder business at Sony Electronics, Hidenori Toyoda, told reporters. "And with various mount options, the Action Cam lineup is so versatile it can easily keep up with even the most extreme lifestyle."

The HDR-AS10 Action Cam will cost $199.99, while the Wi-Fi enabled HDR-AS15 Action Cam will cost $269.99.
